Dentures
Dentures – Tooth Fillings Brookhaven
A denture or a complete denture as it is often called, is an appliance that is inserted in the mouth, replaces natural teeth and provides support for the cheeks and lips.
No one grows up thinking they’ll need dentures when they are in their older years, but a variety of things can happen which prompt that need. Those reasons might include:
- Poor dental care
- Gum disease
- Tooth loss from decay or injury
- Dental abnormalities
While many see dentures as a last resort, for some patients, they are a necessity…and a blessing! Dentures not only restore a smile but can also help relieve the pain caused by any number of dental-related issues. It’s also easier to eat and speak with a full set of teeth. So, a beautiful set of dentures is a win-win situation for some patients.
Types of Dentures
There are several different types of dentures available.
- Conventional dentures – These take a bit of time for preparation. All teeth must be pulled, the recipient’s mouth must heal completely (may be a few months), and then the dentures are inserted.
- Immediate dentures – This removable denture can be inserted on the same day that any remaining teeth are pulled. That means the recipient doesn’t have to endure time without teeth. Measurements are taken and models made at a preceding appointment.
- Overdentures – These can be utilized if some teeth are healthy enough to be saved. Overdentures are exactly as the name implies; they fit over your natural teeth after those teeth have been prepared by your dentist. Implants function similarly.
Dr. Mixson and her staff understand that it takes time to acclimate to any kind of denture or other dental appliance. As such, they are ready to help with any problems that might occur and encourage the new denture wearer to ask questions or report problems. They will guide each patient through the process of preparing one’s mouth for dentures and offer tips for maintaining a healthy mouth while wearing their new teeth.
Affording your dentures
Dentures are made from various types of resins or porcelain. Porcelain was the go-to material for decades as it feels most like one’s own teeth and is durable. But porcelain can be expensive.
These days, cosmetic dentists in-the-know offer dentures made of acrylic resin, which is not only less expensive but also lighter in weight. They are also easier to adjust and new advances have made them equally as durable as porcelain dentures.
But dentures can still put a “dent” in your budget. At Gentle Smiles Dental Atlanta, we’ll work with you to find a payment plan that fits your needs so that you can enjoy a new smile without breaking the bank.
